ALCOHOLISM AS A SOCIAL PROBLEM IN AFRICA.

Alcohol consumption has a large impact on burden of disease and mortality in African countries. With alcohol being responsible to most accidents, suicide, diseases such as HIV/AIDS e.t.c, ncreases deaths in Africa. Alot of people in Africa are suffering from Alcohol Use Disorder.

Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) is a medical condition characterised by an impaired ability to stop or control alcohol use despite adverse social, occupational or health consequences. It encompasses the conditions that some people refer to as alcohol abuse, alcohol dependence, alcohol addiction and the colloquial term, alcoholism. This disorder affects how people works... alcoholism may lead to divorces to married people and increases road traffic accidents in our society. Alcohol abuse leads to Gender Based Violence

While the permissive attitude of our society promotes the use of alcohol in a wide variety of ways, alcohol addiction is a social stigma.

A social history may reveal the patients weaknesses and his resources. It has been shown that alcoholics have inadequate capabilities (resources) for dealing with stressful situations.

With respect to the prevention of alcohol misuse in our society, Mental Health Awareness might help reduce on individuals "alcohol risk",by educating them. # Linda Kaimbo
